I hiked from Val-Kill to the top of Dutchess Hill to Top Cottage. It is about only 1 mile, but near the top, it becomes very steep..almost 45 degrees. No wonder the Queen was terrified.
But I had my hiking stick and was off.
Nicely marked trail. Tulip Poplar was FDR’s favorite tree.
Such a lovely, peaceful view.
Can you guess what that is on the table next to the sofa?
Afternoon on the porch

that trail looks like a piece of cake. I just walked 2 miles back from a cave in the White Mountains most of it in the dark, a new way to feel really anxious. I was the leader with my flashlight aimed at the ground. Several times Sandy, behind me, said Mama, I think you have lost the trail. He was always right.

Sorry not to have seen Top Cottage. OK, I can’t guess what is on the table next to the sofa.

It is a toaster. Doesn’t every living room have a toaster? FDR liked to serve tea and toast to guests and he could be the host amd could sit there and make toast.
TC is a favorite place. Love that porch and view. Victor was the ranger. Going back tomorrow with friends from Rhinebeck so they can meet him
